1 .   Global Entrepreneurship Summit, 2017

Ivanka Trump At GES 2017: PM Modi Says Women Continue To Lead In India

  •   The first south-Asian edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES), which is being organised by the NITI Aayog in partnership with the government of the United States of America has been held in Hyderabad.
  •   The GES has previously been held in Washington DC, Istanbul, Dubai, Marrakech, Nairobi, Kuala Lumpur, and Silicon Valley.
  • This year’s summit will highlight the theme “Women First, Prosperity for All” and focus on supporting women entrepreneurs.
  • It brings together leading investors, entrepreneurs, academicians, think-tanks and other stakeholders to propel the global entrepreneurship ecosystem.

 

2 . Chairman of the National Anti-profiteering Authority appointed

  • In an immediate follow up action of last week’s Cabinet approval for creation of the posts of Chairman and Technical Members of the National Anti-profiteering Authority under GST, the Government today issued orders appointing senior IAS officer Shri B.N. Sharma, as the first Chairman of this apex Authority in the rank of Secretary to Government of India.
  • The Authority has been set up for a two-year period, which would begin from the date Shri B.N. Sharma assumes charge as Chairman.
  • The Authority is mandated to ensure that the benefits of input credit and the reduction in GST rates on specified goods or services are passed on to the consumers by way of a commensurate reduction in prices.

 

3 . 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI)

  • Morocco born French Director Robin Campillo’s drama film ‘ 120 BPM’ or ‘120 Beats Per Minute’ has won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which concluded in Goa on November 28.
  • The Golden Peacock Award carries a cash prize of Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs)to be shared equally between the Producer and the Director, Trophy and the citation.
  • The Indian Film Personality of the Year Award was presented to Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan amidst thunderous applause.
  • Chinese director Vivian Qu won the Best Director Award for her 2017 film ‘Angels Wear White’.
  • The Best Actor (Male) Award goes to Nahuel Perez Biscaryat.
  • The Best Actor (Female) goes to Parvathy T K.
  • Atom Egoyan receives the Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Marathi Film ‘Kshitij- A Horizon’ gets the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal.

 

4 . SAUBHAGYA Scheme launched in Manipur

  • The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (SAUBHAGYA) was launched in Manipur today.
  • A total of approximately 1.75 lakh households (1.62 lakh rural households and 0.13 lakh urban households) of Manipur are proposed to be included under the Scheme.

What is SAUBHAGYA Scheme ?

  • Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –“Saubhagya” a new scheme was launched by the Prime Minister to ensure electrification of all willing households in the country in rural as well as urban areas on 25th September, 2017.
  • It is launched to achieve universal household electrification in all parts of the Country at a cost of Rs. 16,320 crore including Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) of Rs. 12,320 crores from Government of India.
  • Keeping in view the role of electricity in human and socio-economic development, Government of India has formulated the scheme to ensure last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all remaining un-electrified urban and rural households in the country.
  • All States and Union Territories of the country are required to complete household electrification in their respective jurisdiction by 31st March, 2019.
  • Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), a Navaratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power has been appointed as the nodal agency for coordinating the implementation of the scheme.
  • The prospective beneficiary households for free electricity connections under the scheme will be identified using Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC), 2011 data.

 

5 . Ministry of Water Resources pavilion bags Gold Medal in IITF – 2017

  • The pavilion of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation bagged gold medal  in the Ministries/ Departments category for excellence in display in the just concluded India International Trade Fair- 2017 New Delhi.
